Move from Firefox to Yab.

Your files stay on your Mac.checked Oct 9

Yab takes Firefox’s bookmarks from an exported HTML file and its passwords from a CSV file.

It goes through Firefox’s own export files, on your Mac. Nothing goes through a server.

Checked October 9, 2026 against Yab’s current release. The full story is in the Manual’s Bringing in from another browser.

What changes after Firefox

Yab next to Firefox, area by area. The full comparison has the table and sources.

AIYab leads

Only Yab has an agent that clicks, types and finishes tasks in your pages. Firefox’s Smart Window beta chats with tabs you share and groups them, and a sidebar chatbot can use Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Le Chat or Copilot; it can’t click or fill forms, and one switch turns all AI off. Yab’s agent works in tabs of its own beside yours, signed in as you, on your Claude or ChatGPT plan; Send, Pay and Delete wait for your yes.

Agents like Claude Code and CodexYab leads

Firefox can be driven over MCP, through Mozilla’s Firefox DevTools MCP, which starts its own Firefox. Yab can be driven over MCP and a command line, through yab mcp and the yab command, for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and any MCP client.

Tabs and windowsYab leads

Firefox has tabs down the side as a setting, Split View, folders in the sidebar and tabs that sleep. Yab has tabs down the side, spaces, Split View, folders in the sidebar and tabs that sleep.

PriceFirefox leads

Firefox: Free; its built-in VPN is free up to 50 GB a month. Yab: Free; its AI runs on your own Claude or ChatGPT plan.

Where it runsFirefox leads

Firefox runs on Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone and Android. Yab runs on Mac. On a Mac, Firefox needs macOS 10.15 or later and Yab needs macOS 15.4 or later. On the phone, Firefox: iPhone, iPad and Android; syncs tabs, bookmarks, passwords and history. Yab has no phone app yet.

Engine and extensionsa matter of taste

Firefox is built on Gecko, Firefox’s engine; Yab on WebKit, the engine Safari uses. Firefox takes extensions from Firefox’s add-ons, Yab from the Chrome Web Store.

PrivacyFirefox leads

Firefox has a VPN and open code. Smart Window sends prompts and what you share through Mozilla’s servers to partner models; Mozilla says it keeps no chat logs without permission and doesn’t train on them. Yab has an ad blocker built in. Yab has no account and no server of ours between you and your sites; what your agent reads goes to Anthropic or OpenAI under your account.

Questions

Does moving change anything in Firefox?

No. Yab only reads Firefox’s files or the files you export. Firefox keeps everything, and you can go on using both.

Will I stay signed in to my sites?

No. Sign in once in Yab; it keeps the passwords you brought and offers them under each sign-in box.

Do my extensions come?

Not from here. Yab runs Chrome extensions: add them from the Chrome Web Store, where Add to Yab sits in place of Chrome’s button.

Can I bring it in again later?

Yes, any time, from Settings › General › Bring in from another browser.

What does Yab cost?

Nothing. Its AI runs on the Claude or ChatGPT plan you already pay for, if you connect one.

Yab, Yet Another Browser.

Free for the Mac. Arc’s sidebar, your own Claude or ChatGPT as the agent, Chrome extensions on WebKit.
