Bringing in from another browser

Your tabs, spaces, passwords, cards, bookmarks, history and extensions, straight from the browser you use now.

Yab reads what it needs straight from the other browser’s files on this Mac. Nothing goes through a server, and the other browser can stay open.

From Arc#

Everything that comes from Chrome comes from Arc, and Arc’s own shape with it:

  • Every space becomes a Yab space, with its emoji, color and grain.
  • Favorites become pins, pinned tabs become kept tabs, and folders stay folders, folders inside them too.
  • Side-by-side Split View pairs stay side by side.

It all comes asleep, until you open it. Easels stay in Arc. Match Arc in Settings › Appearance takes its colors too, and bringing Arc in again only adds what is new.

From Chrome, Dia and others#

Chrome, Dia, Brave and Edge, and also Chrome Beta, Comet, Vivaldi, Chromium and Helium. Everything comes, from every profile:

  • Pinned tabs and tab groups, and the open tabs if you ask: each profile in a space of its own, signed in as it was, or all of them in one.
  • Passwords, cards and addresses.
  • Bookmarks and history.
  • The extensions you have switched on, fetched fresh from the Chrome Web Store. What they kept, such as their sign-ins, stays in the old browser.
  • Your sign-ins, so you stay signed in to your sites. A few may ask again.

In the welcome, Bring from … with your browser’s name takes it all in one go. It finishes in the background and says when it is done. Later, Settings brings each kind on its own.

From Aside#

Aside comes over like Chrome, and Yab also brings what Aside’s agent kept:

  • Memory: its Markdown notes become notes in Memory.
  • Chats: finished chats, what you asked and each answer, kept to read under Archived Chats in your chats. The steps in between stay behind, and so do incognito chats.
  • Routines: each one becomes a note with its schedule and its task. It doesn’t run in Yab. To have it run, make it a routine here.

Bring from Aside in the welcome brings them with everything else. Later, the Aside memory and chats row brings them on their own, in Settings › General › Bring in from another browser or Settings › AI › Memory. Bringing them in again only adds what is new, and notes you changed in Yab stay as they are.

From Safari#

Passwords, cards, bookmarks and history come over through Safari’s own export:

  1. Choose Safari… from any Bring In menu, in the welcome or in Settings. Yab opens Safari.
  2. In Safari, choose File › Export Browsing Data, keep Passwords and Credit Cards ticked, and save it in Downloads.
  3. Yab notices the file and brings it in, then offers to move it to the Trash, since it isn’t encrypted.

From Firefox or another browser#

Bookmarks come from an HTML file and passwords from a CSV file, which most browsers can export.

  1. In Firefox, open Bookmarks › Manage Bookmarks, and in the Library window choose Import and Backup › Export Bookmarks to HTML…
  2. Open about:logins, then its ••• menu and Export Passwords… to save a CSV file.
  3. In Yab, choose Bring bookmarks in from a file, and CSV File… under Bring passwords in, in Settings. Then delete the CSV file: it isn’t encrypted.
