Yab Manual
Everything Yab does and the key for it, from the first launch to agents that work in your tabs.
Start Here
Your first minutes with Yab, and the keys to keep.
Install Yab, walk through the welcome, and learn the five keys that do most of the work.
Bringing in from another browserYour tabs, spaces, passwords, cards, bookmarks, history and extensions, straight from the browser you use now.
Keyboard shortcutsEvery key Yab answers to, and how to give any of them another.
SettingsWhere everything is set, and a search that finds the switch itself.
Tabs and Windows
The sidebar, spaces, folders, peeks and splits.
Tabs down the left, as in Arc, or in a row across the top. Your choice, one key apart.
Working with tabsOpen, close, bring back, switch, move, rename and pick several tabs at once.
Pinned and kept tabsThe pages you keep open all day, at the top, and the ones you want to keep, above the line.
FoldersTabs grouped under a name, made by holding one tab over another, and folders inside folders.
Live foldersA folder that keeps itself up to date: your pull requests, issues, files and feeds, in and out on their own.
Tidying and sleeping tabsOld tabs put themselves away, and tabs you aren’t using give their memory back.
SpacesSets of tabs in one window, each with its own pins, color and, if you like, sign-ins.
Split ViewAny two tabs side by side, in one.
PeekShift-click a link and it opens over the page you’re on. Close it, and you’re right where you were.
Small windowA link from Mail or Slack opens in a small window over that app, to read and close.
Windows and private tabsMore than one window, and tabs that leave nothing behind.
Look and themeLight or dark, a color and grain around the page, the bars, the app icon, and how large pages are.
The Field
One field for addresses, search, tabs and a lot more.
One field for addresses, search, open tabs, history, commands, settings and a lot more, as in Raycast.
Search and site searchYour search engine, and any site searched from the field: youtube, then Tab.
Quick ActionsType doc for a new document, meet for a new meeting.
Clipboard HistoryEverything you copy on your Mac, kept with its formatting and the page it came from.
Calculator, units and timeSums, units, currencies, time zones and dates, answered as you type.
EmojiType a colon and a word, and pick one. It finds them by meaning, too.
Suggestions under the fieldA link you just copied, your next meeting, a page you open about now most days.
HistoryEvery page you visited, found by its title, its address, or the words that were on it.
Bookmarks and downloadsPages you keep, one key to add and one to find; and every file you downloaded.
On the Page
Reading, hiding, floating, capturing and building.
The article alone, in a clean column, with the page kept exactly as it was underneath.
Hiding parts of a pageClick a cookie banner, an overlay or a sidebar and it’s gone, on that site, for good.
Boosts and the StoreSmall changes to the sites you use, tried on your own page first and kept only when you say so.
Ad blockerAds and trackers stopped before they load, with the lists uBlock Origin uses.
Floating videoA video lifted out of the page into a small window above everything, and a mini player for music.
Calls and meetingsA call follows you from tab to tab, mutes from anywhere, and your next meeting is a key away.
CapturePart of a page, what shows, or all of it, framed on a backdrop and straight to the clipboard.
Translating a pageA page in another language, translated in place on your Mac.
Copying pages and linksClean links, Markdown links, and a whole page as Markdown or as a file for an agent.
Find, zoom, print and moreThe everyday things: find on the page, zoom, print, swipe back, and what a site may use.
Developer ModeA page from your own server shows its port, its full address, its errors and requests beside the page.
AI and Agents
Claude or ChatGPT, working in tabs beside yours.
Yab has no model of its own: it works on the Claude or ChatGPT plan you already pay for.
Asking about the pageHand your agent a task in your own words, about the page you’re on or anything else.
Commands on selected textSelect text anywhere and improve, translate, explain or ask about it, with a model for each command.
The chatEvery conversation with your agent, in a column on the right: its steps, its tabs, its questions.
Agents in your tabsTabs of its own beside yours, a face that says what it’s doing, and the wheel yours whenever you want it.
What agents ask firstSend, Pay and Delete wait for your yes. You choose how much else does.
Models and plansWhich model does what, the plans they come from, and what happens when one runs out.
MemoryWhat agents learn about you, kept on your Mac as notes you can read, correct or forget.
SkillsWhat agents know about a site before they get there, and the actions its pages offer.
RoutinesTasks that come back on their own, and replies watched for, with what they find on your new tab.
Yab from the terminalyab “…” hands a task to an agent in Yab, and agents use Yab’s tools over MCP.
Yab’s tools over MCPAny agent that speaks MCP can drive Yab: its tabs, your sign-ins, forms, files, memory and mail, with your yes where it counts.
Your Gmail on this Mac: keys, splits, snippets and invitations.
Your Gmail in a space of its own, kept on this Mac and sorted by what each mail wants.
Reading and triageGo through your mail on keys, a thread at a time or many at once, and take back any of it.
Writing mailReply to one or to all, forward, attach files and format, and take it back after you send.
SnippetsWords you send often, put in by name and filled in for whoever the mail goes to.
Reminders and send laterPut a mail off until it matters, get yours back if nobody answers, and send when it will be read.
Searching mailAny mail of any age, by its words, by who wrote it or with Gmail’s own operators.
Splits and labelsSplit the inbox by who writes and what the mail is, and use Gmail’s labels and lists.
Cleaning upUnsubscribe in one key, keep a sender out, and take the inbox to zero, all of it undoable.
Calendar in mailAnswer invitations where they came, see what they clash with, and put your free time in a reply.
Notifications and the badgeA notification when something needs you, never while you’re in mail, and a count in the Dock.
Asking about your mail⌘J hands your agent the mail in front of you, or all of it: it reads, sums up and drafts, never sends.
Passwords and Autofill
Sign-ins, passkeys, cards and whole forms.
Kept in your Mac’s keychain, offered under the sign-in box, never filled on their own.
Passkeys and one-time codesSign in with Touch ID or your phone, and keep your two-step codes beside the password.
Cards, addresses and youFilled in where you pay, ship or tell a site who you are, a card only after Touch ID.
Filling whole formsA sign-up, an application, a checkout: every box you’ve answered before, filled at once.
Make Your Own
Boosts and plugins: building them, and publishing to the Store.
Beyond the look of a site: scripts on its pages, tools your agents can use, a page of its own.
AutomationsA plugin that checks something on a schedule and wakes your agent only when it changed.
The yab APIWhat a plugin’s page script and its own page may ask Yab for, and what you are asked first.
Publishing to the StoreA boost you made goes to everyone through a pull request: checked on its live site, read by a person, then listed.
Extensions, Privacy and More
Chrome extensions, what stays on your Mac, updates.
