Firefox alternatives.
Firefox is Mozilla’s open-source browser on its own engine, Gecko, on every desktop and phone. Its AI is optional: a Smart Window beta and a sidebar chatbot, all behind one switch.
What Firefox has that people look for elsewhere: tabs down the side, folders in the sidebar, Split View, AI chat about pages, a way in for agents like Claude Code, a Windows version, a phone app that syncs and a free price. Below, 7 browsers ranked by how much of that they keep, and Yab.
Firefox alternatives, one by one
Yab
oursYab, Yet Another Browser, is a free Mac browser that keeps everything from Arc (tabs down the side, spaces, folders, Split View) and gives your Claude or ChatGPT plan an agent that works in your signed-in tabs.
Keeps: tabs down the side, folders in the sidebar, Split View, AI chat about pages, a way in for agents like Claude Code and a free price. Misses: a Windows version and a phone app that syncs.
Pick it if you miss Arc and want spaces, pins and folders kept, on a Mac. The catch: Mac only: macOS 15.4 or later, no Windows, iPhone or Android.
Google Chrome
Chrome is Google’s browser on every desktop and phone, with Gemini built in. Its auto browse agent works in your own signed-in Chrome on a paid Google AI plan, in the US and India.
Keeps: tabs down the side (as a setting), folders in the sidebar, Split View, AI chat about pages, a way in for agents like Claude Code, a Windows version, a phone app that syncs and a free price.
Pick it if you live in Google’s apps and want Gemini across Gmail, Calendar and your tabs. The catch: Auto browse needs Google AI Pro ($19.99 a month) or Ultra, in the US and India only.
Microsoft Edge
Edge is Microsoft’s Chromium browser on every desktop and phone, with Copilot built in. Since Copilot Mode was retired in May 2026, its agent, Browse with Copilot, comes with Microsoft 365 Premium in the US.
Keeps: tabs down the side (as a setting), folders in the sidebar, Split View, AI chat about pages, a way in for agents like Claude Code, a Windows version, a phone app that syncs and a free price.
Pick it if you use Microsoft 365 and want Copilot in the browser. The catch: Browse with Copilot needs Microsoft 365 Premium ($19.99 a month) and is US only.
Opera
Opera One is Opera’s free Chromium browser on every desktop and phone, with a free browser VPN, an ad blocker, messengers in the sidebar and Opera AI. Its agents are in a separate browser, Opera Neon.
Keeps: tabs down the side (as a setting), folders in the sidebar, Split View, AI chat about pages, a way in for agents like Claude Code, a Windows version, a phone app that syncs and a free price.
Pick it if you want a free browser VPN and an ad blocker built in. The catch: Opera AI only chats and sums up; agents need Opera Neon at $19.90 a month.
Brave
Brave is an open-source Chromium browser that blocks ads and trackers by default, with Leo, an AI chat that needs no account, on every desktop and phone.
Keeps: tabs down the side (as a setting), folders in the sidebar, Split View, AI chat about pages, a Windows version, a phone app that syncs and a free price. Misses: a way in for agents like Claude Code.
Pick it if you want ads and trackers blocked by default. The catch: More Leo models and higher limits need Leo Premium at $14.99 a month.
Helium
Helium is a free, open-source Chromium browser by imput, still in beta, with ads blocked by default and Google’s AI and telemetry taken out, on Mac, Windows and Linux.
Keeps: tabs down the side (as a setting), folders in the sidebar, Split View, a Windows version and a free price. Misses: AI chat about pages, a way in for agents like Claude Code and a phone app that syncs.
Pick it if you want Chrome’s extensions without Google’s AI or telemetry. The catch: Still in beta.
Safari
Safari is Apple’s browser for Mac, iPhone and iPad, on WebKit, with Apple Intelligence for summaries and tab topics. Safari 27 also lets outside agents like Claude Code drive it over MCP.
Keeps: AI chat about pages, a way in for agents like Claude Code, a phone app that syncs and a free price. Misses: tabs down the side, folders in the sidebar, Split View and a Windows version.
Pick it if you use a Mac and an iPhone and want your tabs and passwords on both. The catch: Apple devices only.
Aside
Aside is an AI agent browser from a Y Combinator startup, on Chromium, for Mac and Windows. Its agent does multi-step work in the sites you are signed in to, on Aside’s own models or your ChatGPT or Claude plan.
Keeps: tabs down the side, folders in the sidebar, Split View, AI chat about pages, a way in for agents like Claude Code, a Windows version and a free price. Misses: a phone app that syncs.
Pick it if you want an agent for multi-step work across your signed-in sites, on Mac or Windows. The catch: The free plan has 500 AI credits a month; more is Pro at $20 or Max at $200.

Questions
What is the best Firefox alternative?
It depends on what you used Firefox for. For an AI agent: Chrome. Free, on Windows too: Chrome. On a Mac, Yab keeps the sidebar and adds an agent on your own Claude or ChatGPT plan; it is ours, so weigh that.
Is there a free alternative to Firefox?
Yes. Free to use: Chrome, Edge, Opera, Brave, Helium, Safari and Aside, and Yab. Some charge for their AI: see each one’s price above.
Which Firefox alternatives run on Windows?
Chrome, Edge, Opera, Brave, Helium and Aside. Yab is Mac only.
