Yab has no account, no sync and no server of its own for your browsing. Your tabs, history, bookmarks, passwords and memory are on your Mac and nowhere else.
Where things are#
- Passwords, cards and one-time codes: the macOS keychain, readable only by Yab.
- History, bookmarks, tabs, what you hid: files in Yab’s folder in your Library.
- Clipboard history: encrypted, with its key in your keychain.
- Cookies and site data: WebKit’s own store, as in any browser. A space with its own sign-ins keeps its own.
- Agents’ memory: Markdown notes you can read, change or forget.
- Mail, once you turn it on: your Gmail, its files and what agents may search of it, in Yab’s folder, and Google’s sign-in in the keychain. Your mail goes between this Mac and Google, and to your agent only for what you ask of it. Disconnect deletes all of it.
What leaves your Mac#
- Daily activity: on days Yab is used, one random ID for this copy, to count how many people use it and come back. No pages, no searches. Turn it off with Settings › About › Share daily activity.
- Crash reports, only if you say yes after Yab quits unexpectedly: what crashed, the version and macOS. Never pages or anything you typed. Settings › About › Send crash reports changes the answer.
- Update checks, every hour, and the ad blocker’s lists, once a week.
- Read statuses, only for a mail account you turn them on for: the mail you send carries an invisible picture from Yab’s site, which notes when it loads and in what kind of mail app, for 90 days. Never an address or a word. See Writing mail.
- What your agent reads, to its model’s maker, while it works on your task. The same goes for form drafts and commands that run on your agent.
Private tabs#
⇧⌘N opens a tab that leaves nothing behind: no history, no session, its own cookies gone when it closes. Agents can’t see it, and extensions stay out unless you let them. See Windows and private tabs.
Clear things#
In Settings › Privacy:
- Cache: page files kept so sites open faster.
- Cookies and sign-ins: signs you out of every site on this Mac. Your passwords stay.
- Camera and microphone: forgets what each site was allowed.
- History: Clear history, and whether to remember what pages say.
