Select text on any page, in a box or not, and press ⌘J. The field opens with the commands for it, each saying where it runs: on this Mac, or on your agent.
- Improve Writing, Fix Spelling and Grammar, Translate and Summarize run on your Mac’s own model when it can, so the text stays on the Mac.
- Explain Simply runs on your agent.
- Type your own question and the list offers Ask Claude “…” (or ChatGPT).
- Ask About This… hands the selection to a task.
The same commands are in the menu when you right-click a selection.
The answer#
It streams in over the field, with a rewrite’s changes marked. What ↩ does depends on where the text was: Replace Selection in a box you can edit, Insert in Reply, or Copy Response. Type to send a follow-up.
Your own commands#
Settings › AI › Commands lists them all. Turn on more of the built-in ones (Make Shorter, Make More Formal, Define, Explain Code, Find Bugs, Add to Calendar, Show on Map and others), give any a key of its own, or press New Command:
- A prompt, with
{selection},{page},{url},{language}and more where they go. - A model: your Mac’s own, or any Claude or GPT model, with its effort.
- Where the result goes: in place, beside the text, in a reply box, or copied.
- When it shows: any text, text in boxes, page text or code, on every site or only some.
