Folders

Tabs grouped under a name, made by holding one tab over another, and folders inside folders.

Make one#

Drag a tab and hold it over another. The row turns into New Folder; let go and the two tabs are in it. You can also right-click a tab for New Folder with Tab, or Move to Folder to put it in one you have.

A folder made among kept tabs is kept. One made among today’s tabs is today’s: it shuts and lets its tabs sleep after twenty minutes alone, is tidied away whole, and dissolves when one tab is left.

Use it#

Click a folder to open or shut it, and double-click it to rename it.
Hold a tab over a shut folder and it springs open to take it.
Rest the pointer on a shut folder to see its tabs in a list. Type to narrow it, then ↩.
Right-click a folder to rename it, put its tabs to sleep, or remove it with or without its tabs.

Folders inside folders#

A folder can go inside another, as in Arc, up to five deep. Each level steps in a little, and the tab you are on stays in sight under a shut folder, however deep it is.

Right-click a folder and choose New Folder Inside, or pick tabs in a folder and choose New Folder with Tabs: the new folder is made there.
Drag a folder onto a shut folder to put it inside. Dragging a tab or a folder between rows, move the pointer right to go in a level, left to come out.
⌥-click a folder to open or shut everything inside it, or right-click it for Open All Inside.
In a shut folder’s list, the folders inside are rows: click one or press → to go in, and ← to come back.
Remove Folder, Keep Tabs moves what was inside up a level. Move to Folder lists every folder, inside ones too.

Folders from a search#

⌘-click a result on a search page and Yab starts a folder named for what you searched, with the results first. Pages you open from them join it, and each tab is named without the words you searched. Search again with mostly the same words and the folder stays; search for something else and a new one starts.

It works with Google, DuckDuckGo, Bing, Kagi, Brave, Ecosia, Startpage, Qwant, Yandex, Perplexity and a search engine of your own. Turn it off in Settings › Tabs › Group tabs from a search.
