Tabs and Windows

Windows and private tabs

More than one window, and tabs that leave nothing behind.

⌘N⇧⌘N

Windows#

⌘N opens the field over the page, and where you go opens in a new window, in the space you are in; each window keeps its own tabs. The Windows menu lists them and has Reopen Closed Window. Closing the last window doesn’t quit Yab: click its icon in the Dock and it comes back.

⌥⇧⌘N moves the tab to a new window, and its right-click menu can move it to another one. In the field, a tab in another window can be moved here with ⇧↩.

Private tabs#

⇧⌘N opens a private tab. The page goes dark, the field says Nothing here is kept, and the tab wears a mask.

  • Nothing from it enters your history, your session or the tabs you can reopen.
  • Each private tab has its own cookies, gone when it closes. Links you open from it share them.
  • Agents can’t see, read or act in it, and extensions stay out unless you turn on Settings › Extensions › Allow in private tabs.
