Tabs and Windows

Pinned and kept tabs

The pages you keep open all day, at the top, and the ones you want to keep, above the line.

⇧⌘D

Yab’s sidebar reads from the top down: pins, kept tabs, a line, then today’s tabs. What sits above the line stays; what sits below it is today’s, and puts itself away when you are done with it.

Pins#

A pin is a square with the site’s icon or a letter, for the pages you keep open all day: mail, calendar, chat. Press ⇧⌘D, choose Pin from the tab’s right-click menu, or drag the tab into the pins.

  • ⌘W on a pin puts it down: the page is let go and the pin stays. Only Unpin removes it.
  • Double-click a pin, or press ⌃⌘R, to give it another letter.
  • Right-click a pin, a kept tab or a folder and choose Change Icon… for an emoji, one of Yab’s icons or a picture of your own. Type to search, and ↩ puts on the first one found. The arrow beside the search brings back the site’s own icon.
  • Pins are never tidied away. The ones in the space on screen stay awake during ordinary idle sleeping;critical memory pressure can put an unused pin to sleep.
  • Pin a calendar and it can show your next meeting.

Kept tabs#

A kept tab is one you mean to come back to. Right-click a tab and choose Keep Tab, or drag it above the line. Kept tabs are never tidied away, and you can put them in folders.

⌘W on a kept tab only puts it to sleep; the row stays. To be rid of it, choose Close and Don’t Keep.

Clear today’s tabs#

In the sidebar, point at the line and press Clear. Every one of today’s tabs goes, except the one on screen and any that play sound, are on a call, are downloading or hold something you typed and haven’t sent. The notice that follows has Undo.
