When new mail needs you, a notification says who wrote, the subject and what they want. Lists, codes and the rest of Other don’t, unless you ask for everything below, a muted thread never does, and nothing comes while you’re in mail. More than three at once come as one: “5 new in Needs you”, with who sent them.
Choose what notifies#
Settings › Mail › New mail: Off, Needs you, to start with, or Everything in Inbox, a row for each account when you have several. A split notifies for its own mail when its row in Settings says Notifies, as VIP and Team do from the start.
Act on one#
Click it to open the thread in mail. Its buttons are Mark Done, Remind Me Tomorrow, at 9:00, and Reply, which opens the thread with a reply ready. Nothing is sent from a notification. Once you’ve read or done the mail in Yab, its notification leaves Notification Center.
The Dock badge#
Settings › Mail › Dock badge counts what needs you, to start with, every unread thread in the inbox, or nothing.
How quickly#
Yab asks Gmail for new mail every 10 seconds while mail is in front, every 15 while you use Yab, and every 30 in the background while notifications are on, or every 5 minutes with them off or the battery nearly out. While the Mac sleeps, or in Low Power Mode, it waits.
